Film distribution and Marketing

What is meant by the term film distribution?

How a film is made available for it's audience to watch. This is usually done by certain companies such as Lions Gate UK.

What does a film distributor do?

A film distributor is a company that's job is to deliver a film to its audience, for example putting it into cinemas or allowing shops to sell it's DVD/Blu Ray. It is also responsible for the marketing of a film and setting its release date.

How does reach relate to film distribution?

Reach is important to film distribution as companies will try to get their advertising on as many different media platforms as possible to get the maximum people to see it.

What is meant by the marketing plan?

A document that is made to hold the future plans of how a product is going to be advertised/marketed. For example, what platforms they will use and their use of trailers and social media.

What is meant by the distribution plan?

A plan created by the management to plan how they will transfer their product from different business sectors. From production of the film to the cinemas and eventually the distribution of the DVD/Blu Rays.

What is the difference between advertising, publicity and promotion?

Advertising is showing your product to the public and it can be done through different means. Tv adverts being a very popular option. Publicity is where something is given attention by the media and it isn't always at the choice of the target. Finally, promotion is a action that makes aware or encourages something. For example, a film star in a new film will appear in interviews to 'promote' the film.
